Been silent for a while, as we all busy
training, racing, partying and hanging over....AND...repeat...
Our members whom completed the first ever China Ironman are all super! They are
brilliant! It was a very very hot race and many experienced competitors
even throw their towels! We all salute to our Sonic Ironman finishers Joey
Musselman, Stephanie Bina, Wong Kam Tim, K.K. Chan, Edwin Chiam, Joseph Seetoh,
Fabrian Kor, Austin Wang, Dr. Chris Tong, Rotislav Bures, Nomoto-san, Kent Po
Kin, Brian Lee, Cheng Wai Chung, Eric Chan and Ivan Yeung! Some of their stories
were filed in our Race Report collection, click Race Report on your left menu.
In May we spent a weekend in Guangzhou for the Asian Championship ITU with other
fellows triatheles with HKTriA.
7 hours of transportation from HK tried your body enough but lucky is that it
was an afternoon race but unlucky is that some of us felt stomachache.
Eventually we all enjoy the race and had a very funny nite out at Guangzhou
downtown.
Sprint Triathlon came back to the race calendar this year we all happy with this happening!! We have many faces from Sonic, they enrich the ranking of Sonic hopefully but in boarder view the overall field are getting stronger and more competitive. Even though many of us have improvement in performance but only Michale Bucek, Ivan Yeung and Stephanie Bina can maintain their standing on the podium! Let's tri-more-harder!!!
Coming up is the summer fill with a lot of Aquathon races, Open water swimming races......Singpore 70.3 Ironman and Disneyland HK ITU yet to come, but to count down, just three months to go Sinapore 70.3, five months to go HK ITU. Refine your skill, rebuild your base, train smart, stay injury free, and be prepare! Don't party too much!

Sonic 4th
Anniversary party
The party was successfully held at PCCW Recreational Club on 16 December 2007.
We have almost 70 members and friends showed up! Our head coach Kenneth Yip did

draw seemed like an never-ending game! Hope everyone enjoy the party and have a
wonderful evening. Check out our photo album for the happening!
Ivan Yeung was crowned as "The most outstanding Sonician award" in 2007 season.
He is a very promising triathelete in Sonic and he is the only one in Sonic

some were podium finished. He brought valuable club point to the club. His
performance is unbeatable and deserve a credit. "The hints is very simple, just
strict with the club's training." a 28 years-old said and he is now preparing
for his first 70.3 Ironman China in April.
Sonic is now 4 years old, let's keep it moving!

It has been a long while since the last
update on this website. In the past few months, we have some podium finish,
personal best and many first timer took part in the
Hong
Kong International Triathlon. Ivan nicely complied a
race analysis to
gather all Sonicians result and split time. The week after the ITU was
Splash N Dash Aquathon
by Revolution-Asia, it was a tough game of 500m swim + 5k run plus another 500m
swim + 5k run, but the great atmosphere still attracted some tough Sonicians to
take part, we have some podium finish as usual and also have the last to cross
the finish line and they all won the glory! Off season? Not Yet! The last
Saturday of October was the Deep Water Ocean Swim again by Revolution-Asia, not
too many Sonic fish showed up but some of us did very well done in this 1.6k
swim among the strong field. See related thread on our
forum! In
the same weekend, Kent Wong and Philip Penaloza did the TaiTung
The Beauty of
TaiTung Triathlon 2007 in Taiwan and they both highly recommend! November is
still a race month that makes the season pretty long! First Sunday we have
re-scheduled Aquathon race 4 at Repulse Bay then it was Nike 10k Challenge for
most of us record breaking! Coming up this Sunday is again the re-scheduled
Aquathon race 5 at South Bay then the triathlon season will be officially called
off...
But we still have many activities are coming up and being planned, our annual year-end Sonic 4th years old party + pre-Christmas party is scheduled on 14 December Friday evening, location will be confirmed shortly.
Our off-season training camp will be on 25th - 27th January, location would be either Zhuhai or Hainan Island, to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, some Sonicians will do United Run for Children 2007 half-marathon, Macau marathon, attempt Tokyo Marathon 2008 and also China Ironman 2008!! Life is too busy!!

Macau Triathlon is an annual 'must-go' event
that listed on the Sonic Sports event calendar since we established in 2003. We
joint this event as an warm up race before Hong Kong International Triathlon,
some of us even see this event as an high priority race. With the friendly
relationship of Macau Triathlon Associations and Sonic Sports, starting
from 2003, we were about a group of 10, 2004 was about a group of 30, 2005 grew
up to group of 50. In 2006, we sent a group of 80 to Macau for this race. We are
the big team and also the strong team in Macau race.
In the elite race, Andrew
Wright continues his excellent performance and won the champion in Under23
category again! He is still gaining ITU points for a ticket of Asian Game and
Olympic Game in 2008.
In age-group race, french connection Yann Kneubuhler crossed the finish line in
2:01:24secs, won the champion in his group and ranked also number one overall!
Keith Leung no longer a junior and debut in the Olympic distance age-group race
finished in 2:28:04secs, good enough to be the 2nd runners' up in 20-24 group
even one more lap of riding. Sonic Top Gun Albert Chan just finished the
half-ironman but still ranked number 4 in 35-39 group. Taxi Driver Wong Kam Tim
won 1st runners up in 50+ group with his racing secret in 2:27:26. King Of the
Mountain Ivan Yeung won 2nd runners up in 25-29 group and finished in 2:14:44,
just 3 seconds lost to 1st runners up.
In the girls' side, Gigi Wong mission completed and ranked top 3, 2nd runners up
in 25-29 group with the time of 2:48:24, endurance queen Madoka Murayama just
finished her half-ironman 1 week before and continues her serial-success in
Macau and won champion in 30-34 group, finished in 2:36:45! Alice Chee won the
2nd runners up in the same group since she found her counterpart!
In the sprint race, our new member Franziska Koenen from German won 1st runners up in her first race in Asia with the time of 1:20:25, Catherine Rayne from England just 1min behind 2nd runners up and ranked 4 in Sprint Open.
In the relay race, Sonic Champion System team 1 and team 2 continues the success with the formula of Hong Kong Distance swimming record holder Alexandra Chung and his brother Chung Kwok Ting for the swim, former Hong Kong national team cyclist Jeremy Leung and his Marco Polo Pro-cyclist brother Kenji Leung for bike, plus two strong 10k running specialists for run.
We have surprise in every race, the new surprise belong to our Macau-based member Teresa Mak, she trains oversea (Hong Kong), and she decided to race her debut Olympic distance in her home town Macau, finally she won the 1st runners up in Macau local category in 2:57:27.
Finally, the greatest glory should be given to Mr. Philip Penaloza, indeed he is the slowest in the entire race but he still managed the finish his first ever Olympic distance triathlon race without any sense of give up.
2006-09-15
Congratulation to all Sonic members for all
the good results and achievement in September! 9th of September was a race day
for our half-ironman for Desaru Long Distance Triathlon, it was a long and hot
half-ironman race (2km swim/90km bike/21km run)!! Some of our members made it
with the first time and it was a respectable time, in the men side, Sonic Top
Gun Albert Chan finished with 5hrs36mins, Alan Cheung sustained his ankle sprain
and finished with his strong willpower at 6hrs28mins, Denis Kwok hard training
paid off with 6hrs40mins and Sume Chung finished at 7hrs11mins as a big
achievement and step forwarding to full ironman race! In the ladies side,
endurance queen Madoka Murayama finished with a remarkable time 6hrs09mins and
ranked 11 in Woman 30+ category, while ironman expert Aya Fujita finished with
7hrs47mins and ranked 26! She is our Japanese members and currently lives and
trains in Bangkok.
In the next day, our new sonic girl Ada Au showed her debut in Desaru Sprint (500m swim/17km bike/3km run), finished the race at 56:55mins and won the 1st runner-up just for the first time in the first race!
However, Andrew Loong DNF by heat stroke is the only sad news, he is having good recovery and will come back to our sports very soon.
All of their race report available in Race Report section.

2006-08-01

Rainy day is about computer works. Many
update on the web this time.
First of all, the Aquathon series race 4 was successfully done on 23 July in
Plover Cove, that was the hottest day of this summer as indicated by our
traditional chinese calendar! By the "encouragement" of coach Kenneth, many
Sonicians returned to the race and finished in one good piece in the heat
condition. The result of our new members was also remarkable. Michal Bucek from
Slovakia gives new surprise on 25-29 male age-group, won the race in 28:37mins
and he is just 25yrs old. Neil Anderson from London joint the competition and
placed 4th in male 30-34 age-group. On the girl side, the debut of Ada Au placed
4th in female 20-29 age-group and she's definitely a new sonic girl power.

In the meantime, a lot of race report and members sharing had been updated in Report section, it includes the race report of Taipei half-marathon and Orange Country Marathon in US by Nurse Tak; San Remo ITU European cup in Italy by Andrew Wright; also Italy, but it's cycling trip by Edwin Chiam; A journey about three Sonic guys escaped from the aquathon race and cycling in Southern Lautau Island; Deep Water Bay Open water swim by Charles Hui, the race pictures were covered in fit! HK Magazine! The magazine is free monthly distributed and it's about Sports, fitness and health in Hong Kong.
At least, some links are included for Victory Cycling workshop, Ricostretch, fit! HK magazine and Revolution-Asia.

With the re-open of Wan Chai Training Pool,

detail.

Victoria Park Swimming Pool and the date remains on Tuesday and Thursday. Please

2006-06-06
We apologize for the second revise on run
training location.
Since when, Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) clearly defined
Victoria Park Jogging Path is for jogging only. The Park attendants may stop
people running on the "jogging path". So we need to move our backup training
venue to Causeway Bay Sports Ground. There is a 400m running path with a better
shower and lighting facility, just need to be careful on a few of sharp turns.
Please click here for the location of Causeway
Bay Sports Ground.
2006-05-30
We've been accounting the recent attentents
and consider the lane capacity in our regular swim training. There is a need to
revised the training schedule in June.
To avoid over-congestion in our swim training, we would make use of Wan Chai
Training Pool until they close for maintenance in 2nd and 3rd week of June.
During that 2 weeks, we will move to Victoria Park Swimming Pool for swim
session, and we're required to wear club swimming cap in the Victoria Swimming
Pool. We will fall back to Wan Chai Training Pool in the 4th week of June.
For run training, HKAAA will close Wan Chai Sports Ground from 1st June until
30th September for another maintenance in this year. Our run training will also
need relocating to Victoria Park jogging path for the entire summer season.

Under the hot blazing Sun, Team Sonic
suffered from the heat, performed the best and reached the finish line in Sprint
Triathlon last Sunday.
Our one and only male junior Leung Wai Chun secured a position on the podium
placed third in 1:25:21.
Twinson Wong pulled away on the bike and secured top 3 in his 20-24 age-group,
Andrew Loong returned to the sports and finished strongly with 2nd runners up,
with a time of 1:21:59. Flight engineer Albert Chan and Dr. Christopher Tong
defended top 3 and top 4 in the most competitive age-group 35-39 with a
respectable time of 1:22:45 for Albert and 1:23:05 for Chris. Our cycling coach
Jeremy Leung did the first 'tri' for a short distance race, he lost 2mins in the
water but the time was fully recovered by his powerful bike and run split,
created enough room to win the super-sprint male open in 40:02. The most
impressive competition was in 25-29 age-group, our head coach Kenneth exited
water first and ahead of Ivan Yeung for 1:06, Ivan's hill training paid off on
the bike split, narrowed the gap by just 11secs when they hit the ground. The
pressure was on Kenneth, the real battle on the run determined the champion went
to Kenneth with a time of 1:20:08 ahead of Ivan in 47secs in the end.
On the girls division, Gigi Wong showed up prepare, broke her record and back home with her first 1st runners up title in triathlon race. Cheung Tik Ka also be the only girl in female junior division awarded as 2nd runners up.
Lastly, congratulation to all newbie who made the first step in the sports of triathlon. May our good result extends in the HK ITU in October.
